September 28, 1989
To: New Brighton Park Board
From: Maurice H. Anderson, Director of Parks and Recreation
Re: October Agenda Items
HANSEN PARK PICNIC SHELTER
The New Brighton Chamber of Commerce has donated $10,000 to the
Park and Recreation Department for construction of an open air
picnic .shelter at Hansen Park. The primary purpose of the
donation is to provide additional permanent sheltered space for
the annual Stockyard Days celebration. In addition, this shelter
would greatly increase the park's capacity for group picnics.
The shelter is going to be 30 x 40 ft. and constructed of
materials similar to the existing open air shelter.
I have marked the suggested location (#1) of the shelter on the
enclosed map and would like Park Board input on the location.
Several additional locations (#2, #3) have been examined but
Stockyard Days officials and department staff recommend location
#1.
LONG LAKE SURFACE USE ORDINANCE
Enclosed is a copy of the current ordinance and boat launch
rules. Several users of the lake have complained about boat
launch rules and the Surface Use Ordinance. A review process
must begin now to insure adequate time to involve DNR, user
groups, Long Lake Advisory Committee, City Council, etc.
I would like to have the Park Board review the existing ordinance
and rules and be prepared to suggest revisions and a process to
such public involvement in the review process.
