February 1, 1989
To: New Brighton Park Board
From: Maurice H. Anders or~~j,~~Yx`ector of Parks and Recreation
Re: Entrance Design, Veterans Park
Enclosed is an entrance plan for Veterans Park. The plan
incorporates the Challenger memorial and is consistent with the
original concept plan approved for the park.
The proposed plan includes the Challenger memorial placed on a
brick paver base. The bricks used would be similar to those used
in construction of City Hall and the park shelter. The remainder
of the plaza would be exposed aggregate concrete. Amenities in
the plaza include six wood benches, compatible with those already
in the park, three flag poles (lighted), a low growing shrub
border, 7-crab apple trees and two signs. One sign would be a
typical New Brighton wood routed park sign, the other would be
used to acknowledge groups and individuals that have contributed
to the park construction.
I would like to take this plan to the Council for its approval on
February 14th.. If Park Board members have criticisms or
suggestions, I must have them by THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH so they
can be included in my report to the Council.
