AUGUST 2, 1989 PARK BOARD .MINUTES
3
Johnson said some of his neighbors have been talking and the one
thing they would like to see as part of the community center
complex is a fine restaurant - the equivalent.. of Kozlak's.
Anderson said since Brandywine expanded their menu - you can
barely get. in.
Rose said there are not many good eating places in New Brighton.
Johnson said another thing his neighbors talked about was that
they would be willing to buy a table for $2,000-$5,000.
Anderson said - in essence having a share in the restaurant.'
Anderson said the armory would have a gym and shooting range,
class rooms, theatre style room (seats, stage).
Johnson stated this is their headquarters for the 5-State area.
Anderson said we are getting a lot free. Charges would be things
like a pool and restaurant. The hockey association said they
would like to see enough land purchased so there could be an ice
arena later. This could go in without much city development
cost.
Seward said it seems that everyone supports it.
Johnson said we haven't told them the money issue yet. Was
surprised by the restaurant issue.
Anderson said that Dick Pellow has been talking about for some
time. The City would benefit beyond the social side of it.
Kalina asked if child care or Latch Key has been mentioned as
part of the community center.
Anderson said child care yes but not Latch Key. The child care
would be only for those using the facilities.
Seward asked if there would be dues.
Anderson said there will be user fees with discounts for New
Brighton residents.
Kalina asked if people don't want a Latch Key program.
Johnson said he didn't say that, only that it has not been
expressed as a need.
