April 6, 1988 Park Board Minutes 3 Olson asked what kind of families would this park be . serving. John. .Johnson said the .young children would be a small percentage, probably more teenagers because of the cost of the homes. Ken Johnson said there were 11 new elementary age children in school district, from the new expensive development on Brookshire. Hanson said that if the park is moved to the middle, the vegetation to the south will be lost because the apartments will then be moved further south. closer to the freeway. John Johnson said the drainage would have to go north for stormwater management, the southern edge will be filled. Ken Johnson asked about additional land that can be obtained through the park dedication. Also wondered about-where the ponding would be. Anderson said the park dedication requires 10% ir. cash or land. We have the option of land or cash. The land could be up to 6 acres. Ken Johnson said we could allow some ponding on our land. ' Anderson said to keep in mind that the residential area continues to the north, not just what is shown on this map. The park would serve the entire residential area. John Johnson said he could arrange diff~ for the park but the topography is very work with. You have to bring the hills the holes. The proposed plan now is to down. Would like to hear what the Park definition of a neighborhood park is. Arent options difficult to down or fill take the hills Board's Ken Johnson said the city will be using the fill taken from Freedom park to fill the holes in city property. Phyllis Hanson said if having the park in the center is your priority, you will lose the vegetation to the south. Ken Johnson said he feels strongly that the city should never give up park land.. Would like to get as much acreage as possible.
