May 4, 1988 Park Board Minutes. <br />Ocel commented that in Fridley there is a little lake <br />and the trail goes by the townhouses and in people's <br />back yards. Have never seen litter or people sitting <br />around. Tt looks very nice. <br />Henry Larson, 126.7 Pike Lake Drive, said both oomments <br />are a different. set of situations. Our conoern is <br />people will see the open area near Mr. Palmers property <br />and want to party. If it .were part of the park it <br />would be no problem but it is not. <br />Johnson said 2.4 acres could be turned into park. <br />Larson said he would prefer to leave it the way it is. <br />What are the impacts on bird populations such as the <br />rare blackcrowned night heron which nests on the south <br />side of our lake? <br />Anderson asked if they knew for sure these wire nesting <br />herons. They responded yes. <br />A resident said you see the birds only if no one is out <br />in their yard <br />Anderson said he would be more than. willing to talk to- <br />someone about the impact. <br />Johnson asked if the DNR could help. <br />Anderson .said yes, probably. <br />Are the expected benefits worth spending our tax <br />dollars? <br />Anderson said again this is subjective but he thinks <br />so. <br />Who would reap these benefits? <br />People from the area west of Pike Lake. <br />If .the trail were developed,.would the-city ;need to <br />control and monitor use of the lake. by non-residents <br />and would it be willing to monitor lake use? <br />The city is monitoring high speed power boats on Long. <br />If boats became a severe problem on Pike Lake - things <br />could be done by creating a surface use ordinance and <br />by using signs. <br />
