May 4, 1988 Park Board Minutes <br /> <br />Stan McDonald, 1189 Pike Lake Drive, said he heard the <br />positive things expressed but don't think it will be <br />worked out that way. Pike Lake is a small. lake,and i <br />needs to be protected. Sewer is being dumped in the <br />lake. The DNR shows there is salt in the lake. -The lake <br />has paid the price far this.. Hope .that in 10 years we <br />don't find it was a mistake to do this trail project. <br />Will the trail. be maintained? <br />Anderson said the issue of stormwater is a legitimate <br />issue but the Park Board had nothing to do with it and <br />neither did the city. It was Ramsey County and the Rice <br />Creek Watershed District. Anderson said he knows there <br />is a delta being built up there. <br />McDonald said not only on the south, side but the north as <br />well. This is a good example of the impact that decision <br />has had on the lake. <br />Anderson said if we put this trail in we can do landscape <br />buf~erings so you would rarely even see the trail. The <br />city has an aggressive planting program. <br />Anderson said our trails are well maintained.. Something <br />could happen where we would not be able to maintain the <br />trail but that would be a rare chance.. <br />Anderson said he is willing to talk. to wildlife experts <br />and find ways to help improve wildlife.. <br />Phil Goodrich, 1129 Pike Lake Dr, said he has been a lake <br />resident for 20 years. .Feels there may be more traffic <br />in the winter with snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles. <br />None of these vehicles are from lake residents.. I't is <br />dangerous. They come very close to people. Think the <br />trail may make it worse. Have had alcohol, and marijuana <br />parties. Maybe it is true that more lights may help but <br />not sure about that. Is there another trail next to a <br />noise wall? All the noise .bounces off the wall. There <br />are other ways to get rid of the graffiti - don't need a <br />bike trail to do it. <br />Anderson said that snowmobiles have typically not been a <br />problem in the parks. The reason is because it is <br />illegal. Right now it is not illegal for snowmobiles to <br />go on that trail. It is currently unguarded. <br />A resident responded that it will still be unattended. <br />Police can't always be there. If there isn't an access <br />there, then they won't go there. <br />
