Anders~~~%~~ector of Parks and Recreation
Harstad Development Park Proposal
~ I have reviewed the most recent (undated, unidentified) concept
~ plan .submitted by Merila and Assoc. on behalf of Harstad
z Companies..
0
Q It is my opinion and that of the Park Board that development of
this parcel warrants the addition of an additional neighborhood
w park to the present system. The City's Comprehensive Park Plan
calls far "recreation open spaces within walking access of every.
resident." There are two parks in this general area, Hidden Oaks
a and Freedom Park. Each of these parks are .7 miles distant from
the proposed development and more importantly either. Innsbruck
~' Drive or Silver Lake Road must be crossed to reach the parks.
The Park Board has requested that the developer include a 6 acre
park in a central location within the development. They also
~-- suggested that some water storage on the site was acceptable and.
w that the proposed park be able to accommodate potential
~ development of a tot lot, ballfield/open play area, trails,
picnic facility and tennis courts.
a
w The Park Board has not had an opportunity to review this plan,
~ however, it appears to meet all of their criteria. This park, as
oz shown, provides good access from the nei.ghbr~rhood, preserves so~ie
~- green areas with~.n the ~.evele~pment and prz~vdes faca.lit~.es fc~r
w activities that should benefit area residents.
U
w
D
z
Q
Q
