MINUTES <br /> New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br /> Regular Meeting—February 8, 2005 <br /> 7:00 a.m. <br /> Members/Liaisons Present: Bob Benke, Gene Delaune, Sharon Doffing, Dennis Flahave, <br /> Linda Harmon, Ken Johnson, John Kaufhold, Steve Larson, Mark Nelson, and Jim Witkowski. <br /> Member Absent: Gary Stang. <br /> Staff Present: Matt Fulton, Grant Fernelius, and David Black. <br /> Other Present: Tom O'Neil (DSU Planning). <br /> ZSif <br /> Call to Order <br /> Linda Harmon called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. <br /> Commission Organization <br /> Black introduced Sharon Doffing, who will serve . - e Liaison for the coming year. <br /> Linda Harmon was nominated as chairpersorar , coming ear. All approved. <br /> Northwes '. - • i t Repor <br /> Planning. :lack - - o 1 eil, who has researched the markets for various types of <br /> commercial • dustr Bevel•.ment options as part of DSU's revision of the concept plan. <br /> O'Neil sugge ed that researching the markets was valuable since markets can and do change <br /> quickly. The results of this study will inform DSU's design team and ensure that the plan is <br /> more feasible. <br /> O'Neil assumed that industrial uses were not a preferred option. The possibility of a library was <br /> not seen as feasible at this time, and a transportation hub was not viable, though some sort of <br /> transit station would work. DSU looked at office/warehouse, retail, and office markets. <br /> This is a unique site, with a high-profile location yet less-than-ideal access. The lakes and <br /> freeways serve to isolate the site, which poses problems for retail. The area is near the central <br />
