Other Developments
Brighton Village
Fernelius reported that the City had a meeting with Kraus-Anderson and a hotel developer last
week. The hotel developer is planning a 90 to 95 room extended stay hotel which would sit on
two acres of the site that they would purchase from Kraus-Anderson. The hotel wants tax
increment assistance, which is an issue since the whole site is already under a tax increment
district. Kraus-Anderson has stated that they are no longer interested in the tax increment
district, however the hotel has not indicated how they would use the money, and another meeting
has been set up for next week to discuss a more specific plan.
Stang inquired if the hotel owner has additional hotels in the area. Fernelius replied that the
owner has six other hotels and one extended stay hotel. Kaufhold inquired if the City could push
the realignment of the road. Fernelius replied that a realignment of the road has not been on the
plans that the City has looked at. The City has been telling Kraus-Anderson that is wants a
comprehensive plan for the entire site, not just the hotel.
Flahave inquired how the neighbors in the area feel about the hotel coming in. Fernelius replied
that for the most part the neighbors are happy that something is being done with the site.
However, several neighbors have been complaining about the demo pile that has been left on the
site. Kraus-Anderson has agreed to an immediate cleanup of the debris and remove the existing
pads.
Delaune asked if the bank will be included in the redevelopment. Fernelius replied that the bank
will not be included. Stang asked if Champps would be going forward with their planned
expansion. Fulton replied that since Kraus-Anderson purchased Champps, revenues have fallen
short of what was predicted and the expansion has been put on hold.
Marv's Transmission Property
Fernelius reported that a development agreement is in negotiations to redevelop Marv's
Transmission into a small office building. The building will be subdivided into separate
condominium suites and sold to professional office users.
Taylor Property
Fernelius announced that a developer is interested in this site for a corporate office. The building
would be roughly 40,000 square feet. The developer has discovered a large debris pile on the
site and is interested in receiving a tax increment assistance to help with the cleanup.
Other Updates
City Manger Recruitment Process
Larson reported that ten firms have submitted proposals. Council will be looking at each one
and then select three firms to interview next week. A firm should be selected by the end of the
month. The Council is hoping to have a new City Manager in place by October or November of
this year.
