Kaufhold asked what the benefit is of holding a reception for the candidates. Troha replied that
it's valuable for the candidates to meet the citizens of the City and for the Council to see the
candidates in different situations. Benke added that typically there are three candidates that are
technically qualified for the position, but the reception helps with finding out who has the correct
chemistry to work well with the Council and staff
Harreld asked if the recent survey asked how people would like to be informed for
announcements. Bauman suggested that newsletters and the web are great ways to get
information, but noted that both have limitations in that the newsletter is once a year and not
every citizen has access to the Internet. Benke added that the City is also competing against
other media and it may be difficult to get our information out. Harmon suggested that putting
announcements and articles into the newspapers are good ways to get information to the citizens,
and they can ask staff to print off pages from the City's website. Harreld asked if they could
recommend citizens to call in and receive information. Lavandowska replied that the front desk
staff would be happy to help with distributing information, and they currently print off
information from the Web and mail it to several citizens in the City that do not have access to the
Internet. Witkowski suggested that the Bulletin would be a good place to post information.
Bauman added that if there is a club or chamber that would like to have a Council member come
and answer questions she would be willing to attend and she other Council members would also
attend if they are available.
Chamber of Commerce Report
Nustad reported that the Chamber is asking citizens to vote for the transportation amendment in
November. This would not increase taxes, but redirect them. Harreld asked where the taxes that
are collected are currently going. Nustad replied that they are going into the general fund.
Sculthorp pointed out that by redirecting this money, taxes will have to be raised to make up for
the shortage, and he therefore he would not support this initiative.
Business Council
Black announced that the next Business Council meeting would be held on October 31st at the
Family Service Center starting at 7:30 am.
Town Hall Meeting
Harreld said that she had a good time at the meeting. Harmon indicated that she would like to
see younger citizens at the meeting. Bauman agreed that younger citizens are needed and
suggested that maybe the City needs to look at that time the meeting is held.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:47 a.m.
