_ ChristKing
diiiii/41°1%o
II ,vt.■ll 1900 Seventh St. N. W., New Brighton MN 55112
11
March 24, 2006
Matthew Fulton
City Manager
803 Old Highway 8 NW
New Brighton, MN 55112
Dear Mr.Fulton:
Subject: Guide Signs to Local Churches
We are writing to ask for the City's guidance in enabling us to place standard guide signs at various
locations in the City that will direct visitors to our location on Seventh Street. Because of the many
activities we share with the broader community and the number of weddings and funerals that we
conduct,we frequently encounter people who have difficulty in finding us. We believe that this
difficulty involves unnecessary stress in trying times but also a public safety concern if drivers are not
sure of their route.
Before we invest in signage we would appreciate learning what we should and should not do in order
to guide people to our church. We have observed signs placed by other churches in New Brighton and
other communities and would like to move forward with our own as a part of our current plan to
expand communication efforts.
Based on preliminary discussions to date with your staff and Ramsey County staff,we understand:
1. Silver Lake Road is a Ramsey County road.
2. Eighth Avenue NW at 7th Street is a City street
3. Current city codes are not clear as to placing signs of the type we are proposing
4. Placement on private property adjacent to the public rights of way would require consent of the
property owners.
5. Placement of signs should include a prior Gopher One call to ensure that underground utilities
are not damaged.
Please let me know if you need additional information and whether we need to meet with you or the
Council to complete this task.
Sincerely,
62,4,1
'4
Pastor Paul Larsen, Senior Pastor
Christ the King Lutheran Church
1400 Seventh Street NW
CC: Mayor Steve Larson
CTK Church Council
GUIDED BY THE GOSPEL: GATHERING • GROWING • GIVING
