The benches are to be placed in a visibly continuous corridor
sa people are able to see the next bench----with the thought that visible continuity will keep
people in motion. Benches are to be made from recycled plastic and will further promote
recycling programs. In March of 2007 the City of New Brighton Parks and Recreation
Department applied to be the recipient of a pilot program that would result in donated benches to
the City. Actively Living Ramsey County chose New Brighton for the pilot program.
Financial Impact:
This donation is estimated to have a value of approximately $10,000 which. includes the benches,
concrete pads and brick pavers for recognitions.
Explanation:
The pilot program donation will include seven benches, the concrete pads and brick pavers.
Each bench. will have a l foot square paver brick on either side. One will acknowledge the
sponsor; in this case Active Living Ramsey County and the other will have an inspirational
quote. The quotes include references to walking, health and caring far the environment. The
Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission reviewed the quotes at their Apri14, 2007
meeting and approved the quotes.
In addition contractors, at the expense of the county, will be hired to complete the concrete
pouring. Park Maintenance staff will be responsible for the assembly and installation of the
benches, follow-up work to restore the areas immediately surrounding each bench area, and
ongoing maintenance of the benches.
The seven benches will be placed on a route that covers the area beginning at the Family Service
• Center and ending at Mainstreet Village. Three routes were submitted to the County and the
Family Service Center/Mainstreet Village route was chosen by ALRC.
