REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF CHANGE ORDER NO.1 TO PROJECT 07-1, 2007 STREET RECONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: ~w Recommendation: To approve Change rder No. 1 for Project 07-1, 2007 Street Reconstruction adding the milling and overlaying of the 1694 Service Drive to the existing contract. Comments attached CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report Legislative History: The City Council ordered Project 07-1, 2007 Street Reconstruction on March 27, 2007, and awarded a contract to North Valley, Inc. on May 22, 2007. Financial Impact: Change Order No.1 increases the origin<J.1 contract amount by $22,020.61. Please see the attached Change Order and Attachment. Explanation: Project 07-1 consists of the reconstruction of approximately 0.6 miles of residential streets in 2007. Change Order No.1 adds the milling and overlaying of the I694 Service Drive between Thomdale Avenue and Silver Lake Road to the contract. . The Service Drive along with other streets in the Pike Lake area was reconstructed in 1984. In 2002, all these streets were milled and overlaid, as a maintenance project, with exception of this portion of the Service Drive. The Service Drive was omitted from the project because of the uncertainty of the impact the redevelopment of the Brighton Village Shopping Center would have on its alignment and grade. We did not want to spend any money fixing the street not knowing if it would be totally redone or possibly eliminated as part of the redevelopment. It is now evident, with Brighton Village's site plans being recently approved, there will be no impact to the Service Drive as a result of the redevelopment. The road is in very poor condition at this time and in need of a more permanent fix than just routine maintenance. A mill and overlay will produce a smooth riding surface and extend the life of the road. The Contractor has agreed to mill and overlay the Service Drive for the same unit prices bid in the contract for Project 07-1 with the only addition of a mobilization charge for moving the mill and paver onto the site. The bid results show that these are very good prices and staff recommends adding the Service Drive work to the original contract. Costs and Funding: The cost of Change Order No.1 is recommended to be paid from Fund 422 - Contract aintenance, which was set up to include this type of work. . Attachments
