Wyffels, P.E., Director of Public Works Gmv CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: ?J No comments to supplement this report Comments attached Recommendation: Accept the bids for PrcjW07-2A, 2007 Seal Coating, and award a contract to the low bidder, Pearson Bros., Inc. in the amount of $134,725.00. Legislative History: Seal coating is part of the annual street maintenance program which also includes concrete curb and gutter repair, street striping, and mill and overlays. Financial Impact: Seal coating is programmed into and paid for from Fund 422, Contract Maintenance. Explanation: Streets are seal coated at 5 years and 13 years after their construction or reconstruction. There are 8.8 miles of streets to be seal coated under this year's project. Attached to this report is a copy of the informational letter which was mailed to residents in the seal coating areas and includes a map showing the streets to be seal coated. Bids for Project 07-2A, 2007 Street Seal Coating were opened by Staff at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 17, 2007. The following two bids were received: Pearson Bros. Inc. 158,500 S.Y. @ $0.85 = $134,725.00 Allied Blacktop Company 158,500 S.Y. @ $0.86 = $136,310.00 Pearson Bros. Inc. has done seal coating for the City in the past and has always done a good job. Staff recommends the 2007 Seal Coating be awarded to Pearson Bros. Inc. No seal coating will be done before August 1 Oth to avoid possible conflicts with Stockyard Days and National Night Out. All seal coating will be completed by August 31, 2007. The cost of seal coating has risen considerably over the years because of increases in the price of oil.
