r Page 4
Traffic Conditions etc. Sept. 24, 1976
make recommendations on improving the safety in the vicinity
of the school.
I recommend that the City Council and the School Board
request the State Highway Department to conduct the necessary
engineering and traffic investigation adjacent to Silver
Oaks School.
I would like to go one step farther and ask the City
Council to make the same request for all the schools in New
Brighton. I say this because today I received a call from
the principal of St. John's School and she is requesting
that signs be installed in the vicinity of this school.
A boy from this school was hit by a car yesterday on 3rd
Avenue NW near 9th Street NW during recess. He is in the
hospital with a compound fracture of the leg. The principal
feels more signs or other safety measures are necessary
adjacent to this school. About 18 months ago the City Council
and Ramsey County received a request from the Mounds View
School District recommending reduced speed limits on County
Road H adjacent to the Sunnyside Elementary School. At that
time the reduced speed limit law was not in effect, but now
_since it is, perhaps a traffic investigation should be made
at this location.
JJK/vb
✓LCa.
James J..VKleinschmidt
Director of Public Works
