2

taken on a Friday and is not significantly higher than the weekday
counts, The 1064 count, however, is also the amount of traffic which
would likely be generated by the approximately 90 homes in the north
part of the Pike Lake area; however, it is unlikely that all the
traffic from that area is using that one route. Also, the sum of all
trips in and out of the Pike Lake area (approximately 2800 per day) is
far beyond what would normally be generated by this area. Normal
generation would most likely be in the range of 1500-1800 trips per day
for the area as a whole.
The discrepancy between the actual and expected trip generation is
most likely due to pass-through trips from other areas. The most
likely origin/destination for these trips is the area north of 14th
Street. In that case it is likely that some percentage of these trips
are using Robin Lane to and from Silver Lake Road and the shopping
center.
The new figures also allow comparison of the Robin Lane/13th Street NW
counts with 1974 counts nn other streets feeding into Silver Lake Road.
These figures show that the counts on Robin Lane are far below counts
on the collector streets such as Mississippi Street, Rice Creek Road,
14th Street, 7th Street, County Road E and Silver Lane. The Robin
Lane counts are similar to those on streets feeding into Silver Lake
Road such as 17th Street., 16th Street, 15th Street,. Inca Lane, and
3rd Street. These streets all serve as feeder streets to and from
residential areas.
Other appects of the existing traffic situation are that traffic
movements along 13th Street/Robin Lane appear to be primarily outbound
to I-694 via Silver Lake Road and to the commercial area. Inbound
traffic primarily enters via Pike Lake Drive at 14th Street and at
Silver Lake Road. Also, accident occurrence in the Pike Lake area is
generally low with 7 accidents this year at Palmer Drive and Silver
Lake Road and 2-3 at 13th Street and Highview Drive and at Pike Lake
Drive and Highview Drive.
The present Fire Department response to the Pike Lake area is generally
by means of Long Lake Road and 14th Street N.W. when a fire is in the
north part of the area. When the fire is in the south part of the
Pike Lake area response is via I-694, Silver Lake Road and Pike Lake
Drive.
