Jacobson, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this re ort Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />Approval of grant contract 2008-DECA-00345 with the MN Department of Public Safety, Office <br />of Justice Programs. <br />Legislative History: <br />The City of New Brighton has not previously received grant funding for in squad police camera <br />systems. The City has received several grants from the MN Department of Public Safety to <br />include "Safe and Sober" and "CERT" grants as well as equipment for the Public Safety Center. <br />Financial Impact: <br />The City will receive $20,000 for the purchase of in squad camera systems for use in police <br />vehicles. The City is required to match $5,000. The total project cost for eventual placement of <br />camera's in police squad cars is approximately $40,000. <br />Explanation: <br />The State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs awarded the <br />City of New Brighton a local grant to fund the purchase of in squad cameras for police vehicles. <br />The New Brighton Department of Public Safety believes use of in squad video cameras will have <br />a beneficial impact on the safety of our officers, will result in improved prosecution of criminal <br />cases, and reduce the liability of our officers and city in internal affairs investigations and/or civil <br />claims. <br />Robert J.
