<br /> 11'1 \, <br /> ;1 :1 .l <br />" ,I <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 05-048 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT 2005 GRANTS FROM THE U.S. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR CONT AMINA nON <br />ASSESSMENT AND REMEDIATION <br /> <br /> <br />REAS, the City of New Brighton ("City") is a municipal corporation and subdivision <br />f the State of Minnesota organized and operating under Minnesota law, and is auth01ized <br />y Minn. Stat. S 412.211, S 465.01 and Ch. 469 to acquire real estate by exercising the <br />ower of eminent domain under and pursuant to Minn. Stat., Ch. 117; and <br /> <br />REAS, the City Council of the City of New Brighton is the official governing body of <br />he City of New Brighton; and <br /> <br />REAS, pursuant to Minn. Stat. Ch. 469, the City has the authority to establish <br />development districts and to create, undertake and complete development projects therein; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council established Development District No.1 (the "Development <br />District") on December 22, 1981, and thereafter enlarged it; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City has incurred and expects to continue to incur substantial costs related <br />to the assessment and remediation of environmental contamination on properties acquired <br />for redevelopment purposes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency offers grant programs to assist <br />in defraying a portion of costs for assessment and cleanup of contaminated properties; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council approved the submission of three applications for funding <br />under these programs in the year 2004, which were approved by the funding agencies; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of New <br />Brighton, Minnesota that the City Council hereby accepts three grants totaling $600,000 <br />from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, all awarded in the year 2005, with <br />gratitude, on behalf of the City. <br />
