The Commission thanked Chris Wolla for doing the park tour with them. Commissioner
Frischman commented that the disc golf course is well maintained and is truly an asset to
• our community.
VI. New Business
A. Staff Report -Cindy Tranby
Director Breuer introduced Cindy Tranby, Recreation Supervisor. Cindy went
through her presentation. Cindy mentioned the New Brighton & St. Anthony Joint
Aquatics, Babysitting, Soccer and CPR programs. She presented information on
commitment, focus, programs, revenue and enrollments, grants & funding and
gave a staff update.
B. Trail Committee Update -Lisa Harreld
Lisa Harreld stated the last meeting was a week ago on Tuesday at the Family
Service Center. Staff and community members were present. These are a group of
passionate parks and trails people. The first thing talked about was the City's bike
lane policy. A lot of the policy has to do with MNDOT. This means that MNDOT
needs to be involved. We will also be getting the Public Safety Department
involved. We will keep pursuing this. Another thing that was talked about was the
Long Lake Road, 694 crossing. It is the Trails Committee recommendation to
Ramsey County that the crossing be on the northern side of Long Lake Road
where Beach Road intersects. That is the recommendation that will be brought to
the Council next week. Also, we talked about the Comprehensive Plan. We have
. ideas that will be added to the Comprehensive Plan as well as the Parks and Trails
Strategic Plan. Signage inventory was also discussed. It is understood that the
City has a GIS program that may already have the information about what signs
are on specific roads. We will decide where we need signs. We are trying to
incorporate it into what Mounds View and Arden Hills use so that it looks
uniform. Sarah Anderson was present at the Trails Meeting and she is also part of
a grass roots organization called Biking and `Barbs. Signage is an issue her group
has been working on as well and encompasses the whole metro area. She will be
reporting back on what her group discovers. In the future, we will have the Trails
Committee meetings on the Wednesday of the PREC meeting night. The next
meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 7th at 5:30 p.m. (one hour prior to
the PREC meeting).
It was mentioned that our GIS program does not have sign information on it.
Purchase of a GPS system is in the budget for 2008 which may help with the
gathering of this information. It may be necessary to get the signs the old fashion
way by going to each individual street and photographing them with a digital
camera. It would be nice to have all the information regarding the width of the
sidewalk, what kind of surface it has, and bike lane information. Because many of
our streets, such as Long Lake Road and Silver Lake Road, are Ramsey County
roads, some of our information may have to come from them. We really want to
work with Arden Hills and Mounds View to make sure we are connecting with
neighboring communities. It is frustrating for commuter bikers when the bike lane
they have been traveling on suddenly ends. Cindy Tranby noted that Active Living
