ORDINANCE NO. <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDMENT RELATING TO ELECTRONIC SIGNS <br />IMPACTING CHAPTER 9 OF THE ZONING CODE. <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON ORDAINS that the New Brighton <br />Code of Ordinance is amended by amending City Zoning Code Chapter 9 as follows: <br />Article 1. General Conditions, §§ 9-010-9-046 <br />Article 2. Residential Zoned Districts, §§ 9-050--9-060 <br />Article 3. Commercial and Industrial Zoned Districts, §§ 9-070--9-180 <br />Article 1. General Conditions <br />Sec. 9-010. Purpose. <br />The intent of this Chapter is to permit the use of signs that are compatible with their surroundings and are <br />legible while at the same time assuring that the public is not endangered or distracted by the unsafe or <br />indiscriminate use of such signs. <br />The City Council has determined that the regulations in this Chapter are necessary for the following <br />reasons, among others: <br />(I ) To preserve the residential character of residential neighborhoods; <br />(2) To preserve order and cleanliness; <br />(3) To avoid the appearance of clutter; <br />(4) To protect property values; <br />(5) To avoid litter and the growth of weeds around signs; <br />(6) To reduce the traffic hazard caused by distractions to motorists and impairment of sight lines; <br />(7) To ensure that the City remains an attractive place to live and work; <br />(8) To reduce administrative burdens; and, <br />(9) To protect the health, safety, welfare, morals, convenience, and comfort of the public.
