West, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: ,
No comments to supplement this re ortj4CJ Comments attached
Recommendation:
To authorize city staff to implement the policies outlined in the Catering/Alcohol Preferred Vendor List to
begin as of April 1, 2008.
Legislative History:
The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission viewed and discussed the information related to
establishing an updated "Preferred Caterer/Alcohol/Food Vendor List" at the February 6, 2008 meeting. A
motion was passed to forward this information to the City Council for their approval.
Financial Impact:
The suggested marketing fee for caterers and/or liquor vendors requesting to be on a preferred list would
• generate approximately $2,000 for the Family Service Center.
Explanation:
The current preferred catering list was created on December 21, 2004. The Family Service Center
primarily works with one alcohol vendor for liquor service and maintains a caterer list of four caterers
which is provided as a service to prospective clients for large functions. A separate list of food providers
is distributed for small business meetings. These are not exclusive relationships, as clients may choose
another licensed caterer or alcohol vendor. To provide the FSC customers with quality and cost
competitive options for food and alcohol service, the Parks and Recreation Department is requesting
Council to approve the following additions to the current policies.
• To establish an updated Preferred Caterers List.
• To establish a Preferred Alcohol Vendor List.
• To establish a Preferred Food Vendor List.
• To approve a $250 annual marketing fee to be on the Preferred Alcohol Vendor or Preferred
Caterer List.
To approve a $50 annual marketing fee to be on the Preferred Food Vendor list.
Costs and Funding:
The marketing fee was created after researching other communities. The revenues would be
realized in the Family Service Center rentals line item.
Jason T.
