The city would
also be responsible for bike lane symbols and directional markings. Ramsey County has agreed to stripe
the barriers to the bike lanes on Long Lake Road during the reconstruction project and install the bike lane
signage purchased by the city.
Explanation:
In February of 2008 the Trails Committee was informed of the proposed street reconstruction projects in
New Brighton for 2008. The construction project on Long Lake Road was viewed as an important
opportunity to increase pedestrian traffic flow from north to south in the New Brighton community. The
Trails Committee made a recommendation to Parks and Recreation staff to initiate contact with Ramsey
County to understand the feasibility of installing a bike lane on Long Lake Rd from County Road H to I-
694.
Parks and Recreation staff have worked collaboratively with Public Works staff to develop a proposal that
abides by the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Ramsey County Parks and
Recreation and Public Works have offered their support for the project. This is an exciting opportunity as
New Brighton would be the first suburban community in Ramsey County with a designated bike lane.
Costs and Funding:
The estimated cost to the City for bike lane symbols and signage is approximately $2,500. It is
recommended that the funding for this project be paid for with Park Dedication fees.
• Brad Martens
Recreation Supervisor
I'1COU CML PORTR "\Parks andR alianUtef ofPmp Bikel .d
