,.
.. .
.
, ~
~I~I,
illiG of minnesota cities
' league
February 1, 1979
TO: Mayors and COU:(O c/o :Ii C~~
FROM:
DonaldA. Slat f'VI .
The advent of Minnesota's first City Week and the League's Legislative Con-
ference offer cities an unparalleled opportunity for local recognition and
participation in a significant state-wide conference. The League staff has
prepared a kit of materials for your use in local programs which build on
the City Week theme. This kit includes:
. Special posters recognizing City Week.
. Buttons which can be worn by members of the
ci ty governi ng team.
. A draft press release which can be tailored
to fit your local circumstances.
. A paper listing programs which can be used
according to your local preferences.
We have also included another copy of the sample resolution which was distri-
buted to your city some weeks ago should the council not have acted on it.
Finally, there is a pamphlet which the League published summarizing the nature
of City Week and the Legislative Conference program.
The League's Board of Directors recognizes that we are starting City Week with-
out much lead time. The Board hoped, however, that each city would make a
significant contribution to this effort during its first attempt. Longer lead
time a year from now will permit more advance planning and, together with the
experience gained from the first effort, a more productive recognition of city
government. But the Board felt that we should begin at some point, achieve as
much as possible the first time, and build toward greater success in the future.
On behalf of League President Burggraaff, the officers of the League of Cities,
the Board of Directors, and League staff, I respectfully urge you to take leader-
ship in making City Week a success in Minnesota which will lay the groundwork
for more successful efforts in the future.
DS:glb
300hanover building, 480 cedar street, saint paul, minnesota 55101 [61 2J 222-2861
