<br />"..1 <br />) ': <br /> <br />.;"' <br /> <br />RESOLUTION No. 03- 027 <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRlGHTON <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE TO <br />AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON TO COLLECT AN ON AND OFF- <br />i . SALE LIQUOR SALES TAX FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PREVENTION EFFORTS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The City of New Brighton spends considerable taxpayer resources for <br />the purpose ofresponding to incidents involving individual(s) under the influence of alcohol, <br />and <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The City of New Brighton desires to increase the financial <br />responsibility of the users of public safety enforcement efforts relating to alcohol-related <br />violations, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The City of New Brighton's Public Safety Department has an <br />exemplary and proven record of implementing effective and positive crime prevention efforts <br />in the City, and <br />WHEREAS, The City Council believes that it would be in the interests of the City <br />and the citizens and residents of the City to request the Minnesota Legislature to grant the <br />City the authority to conduct a referendum to allow it to jmpose a 1 % sales tax on all on and <br />off- sale alcoholic beverage sales in the City, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The City of New Brighton would intend to use any proceeds collected <br />through this sales tax for the purpose of public safety education and crime prevention <br />activities in the community, and <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of New <br />Brighton, Minnesota as follows: <br /> <br />1. The City Council hereby requests that the Minnesota Legislature grant the City of <br />New Brighton the authority to conduct a referendum to allow it to impose a 1 % sales tax on <br />the on and off-sale of alcoholic beverages as defined by Minnesota Statutes, Section <br />;: 340A.l 01, Subdivision 2 and use the proceeds for the purpose of conducting crime <br />prevention and public safety education purposes, and <br /> <br />2.
