" <br /> ~' " <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1696 <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br /> CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO RE-ENACT GENERAL REVENUE SHARING <br /> WHEREAS the Council of the City of New Brighton has <br /> closely followed the progress of the Congressional review of <br /> the General Revenue Sharing Program, and <br /> WHEREAS the Council is aware of the possibility of <br /> termination or radical changes in the program, and <br /> WHEREAS the Council believes the program as operated <br /> currently provides for decisions at the lowest level where <br /> local needs can be best ascertained, and <br /> WHEREAS the following projects have been made possible <br /> because of General Revenue Sharing <br /> 1. The addition of a juvenile officer in the Police <br /> Department; <br /> 2. A new maintenance building; <br /> 3. Acquisition and development of neighborhood parks; <br /> 4. Installation of traffic semaphores, and <br /> WHEREAS the following projects will be made possible <br /> with funds remaining under the current General Revenue Sharing <br /> Program: <br /> 1. Neighborhood park development; <br /> 2. Acquisition of land for a fire station; <br /> 3. Construction of a sidewalk on a major thoroughfare; <br /> 4. A tree-planting program <br /> 5. A planning study for a regional park, and <br /> WHEREAS the majority of the above projects would not <br /> have occurred without General Revenue Sharing, and those that <br /> would have been pursued would have r~sulted in property tax <br /> increases. <br /> " <br />
