Approved
. 7 ayes, 0 nay. MOTION APPROVED.
Public Hearings: SP2008-010 Special Use Permit to Permit Construction of a Garage in Excess
of 624 Square Feet.
The applicant is requesting consideration of a Special Use Permit to allow construction of an
addition to the existing detached garage whereby the total square footage would exceed 624
square feet. The existing garage structure is 20' x 22' or 440 SF. The proposed addition
measures 10' x 22' or 220 SF. The total square footage of the garage would measure 660 SF,
requiring a Special Use Permit.
The applicant initially requested a building permit to permit the proposed garage addition.
Following staff review of the permit it was determined a Special Use Permit would be required.
The applicant already obtained a Certificate of Survey and was able to apply for the Special Use
Permit in a timely manner.
Schiferl asked if the drive would be extended to the new garage. The applicant replied that an
apron would be added.
Motion by Zisla, second by O'Brien to CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING
• 7 ayes, 0 nays. MOTION APPROVED.
Motion by Danger, second by O'Keefe to RECOMMEND TO THE COUNCIL To ADOPT THE
ATTACHED RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF THE SPECIAL USE PERMIT AS
SUBMITTED.
7 ayes, 0 nays. Motion Approved.
Miscellaneous
Council Member Phillips stated that the limit of 624 square feet for accessory structures might be
too restrictive and the limit should be increased. Gundlach replied that the limit was increased in
2004, but is willing to review it under a Council or Commission directive. O'Keefe stated the
concern in 2004 was the variety of housing styles and lot sizes within the City and a larger
garage might dwarf a smaller house or lot. Gundlach stated that a discussion was held with the
Community Development Director regarding a new review process for handling these types of
applications. Staff discussed placing these items that generate no comments, are deemed routine,
and are noncontroversial on the Council's consent agenda as opposed to conducting a
presentation. The Commissioners agreed that this was a good solution.
Announcements
0 Adjournment: 8:33 PM
Janice Gundlach, City Planner
