WORKSESSION MATERIALS <br />hBR19M <br />Ur (11y that 4rrAiS f(w you <br />Memo <br />To: New Brighton City Council <br />From: Sandy Breuer, Director of Parks and Recreation <br />Subject: Consideration of Family Service Center Roof onditions <br />Date: January 23, 2009 <br />Staff is requesting an opportunity to present to council the current condition of the Family <br />Service Center roof and a recommendation on how to proceed. <br />The Family Service Center roof was installed in 1994 when the building was constructed. In <br />2009 the roof will be 15 years old and has shown consistent increases in the amount of leaks <br />taking place each year. In addition, a recent safety inspection with Loss Control Services found <br />the concrete walk -way pavers to be a "trip and fall hazard" and recommend the removal and <br />replacement of all broken pavers. All warranties for the roof have expired and the increases in <br />repair costs are difficult to endure in the Family Service Center operating budget. <br />Staff has worked with three architectural firms to secure quotes to formally evaluate the current <br />conditions of the family service center roof and to recommend a course of action to be taken. <br />The roof is scheduled in the non -fleet replacement plan as having a 15 year life cycle and is <br />budgeted for a replacement cost of $225,000.
