Public Safety Commission <br />October 29, 2008 <br />Attending: Commissioner Kerns, Commissioner Allen, Commissioner <br />Bredenbeck, Commissioner Elwell, Commissioner Kelly, <br />Commissioner Schumann, Commissioner Tollefson, <br />Commissioner Woods, Student Commissioner Ngang, Director <br />Jacobson, Council Representative Doffing, Bill Snoke and Colleen <br />Wambach <br />Absent: None <br />Roll Call/Call to Order <br />Commissioner Kerns called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm. <br />September Meeting Minutes <br />The September 24, 2008 meeting minutes were reviewed.; Commissioner Allen made a <br />motion to accept the minutes; Commissioner Woods seconded. Motion carried. <br />Public Hearing / Presentations <br />Ms. Colleen Wambach, Irondale High School Principal, gave a presentation regarding <br />Irondale High School. She discussed the school's diversity and how they are working <br />with the minority groups on everything; from learning to foods offered in the cafeteria. <br />Principal Wambach feels Irondale High School is a safe place. The high school has a <br />School Resource Officer (SRO) and a healthy` relationship with the police department. <br />The high school has a student mentor program where 1 It and 12`h graders work with the <br />incoming 91h graders; this has been a very successful program. They had over 200 <br />student mentors last year. <br />Updates <br />Citizen Corps Council <br />Nothing new to report. <br />Department Reports <br />Human Rights <br />There was a graffiti report taken at Patio Enclosures where possible gang symbols and <br />racial slurs were spray painted on the east side of the building. An analyst from the MN <br />Gang Strike Drug Task Force will take a look at this graffiti to see if it is gang related. <br />9 Allina Medical <br />
