Jacobson, Director of Public Safety
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report L Comments attached
Recommendation: Car/Truck City of Pine City lost their state bid contract for Chrysler
police package vehicles due to the bankruptcy of Denny Hecker; their parent company.
Nelson Auto Center won the new state contract # 440560 for Chrysler police vehicles. The
old bid price was $22,137.00. The new contract price is $23,644.91. This price is well under
the New Brighton Fleet budget of S29,900.00. The 55,000.00 trade-in credit will be applied
to the new 063 replacement which is still being supplied through Car/Truck City which
retained the Chevrolet state bid; which will reduce that approved vehicle from $25,42.5.00
to $20,42.5.00.
Financial Impact: This pricing change still reflects a savings of nearly $60,000.00 from the
projected fleet replacement cost budget.
Explanation: The change in the state contract was an unanticipated event.
Costs and Funding: The New Brighton Fleet Plan was funded at $1.96,000.00 for these
purchases. The exact cost changed to $136,186.99 from $134,679.08. Additional decreases
in fleet costs will still result from auction returns.
John.
Director, New Brighton Department of Public Safety
I \C0UNCIL\KEP02"I'S\2001\Public Safety\Police vehicle state bid change.doe
