MN 55112 Dear Council Members: Herein. let the following letter serve as a petition to the City Council from pro~ty owners who are adjacent and concerned about the proposed 8th Street Reconstruction Project #82-12. We ask that the City Councill~ive careful consideration to the following: In reference to Page 71 of the Project Proposal. whereby the construction of a 44 foot wide road with standard on-street parking is proposed. we ask the Council to request a maximum road width of 36 feet and restricted parking for the following reasons: 1): Other than the New Brighton Care Center. there is ample parking with present driveways. You can't use the street for permanent parking. anyway. and parking on one side of the street will serve the special occasions. 8th Street is a residential street and the traffic load does not lend itself to a freeway atmosphere. Narrow lot widths make buildings very close to the property lines on the side lots. Under this proposal. a dwelling would be within 12 feet of the curb. 8-10 mature trees on the property lines would undoubtedly sustain damage through construction and pro::imi~y to the pavement. Not really requiring the necessary width. there would be unnecessary additional cost for the square footage. The road would conform to the new section of 8th Street. west of 8th Avenue. I 2) : 3) : 4) : 5) : 6) : I Other concerns of the proposed Street Construction are: 1): Keep the estimated costs as LOW as possible. especially to assessed property owners. 2): Do not create a speed environmento Avoid attracting TRUCK TRAFFIC to the area. 3): Create an approach to 8th Avenue that is SAFE!
