MARKET ANALYSIS

Thermal Energy Market

I

Projected steam sales are based on the thermal energy require-
ments of the potential customers depicted in Exhibit A. The fol-
lowing table provides estimates of thermal energy consumption by
steam line segment:

MARKET ANALYSIS
THERMAL ENERGY REQUIREMENTS
(Thousands of Pounds of Steam Equivalent) 1
( - Direct Space
Segment Process Fired Heat Total
f 1 70,688 70,688
2 16,412 16,412
r 3 6,5902 9,8853 7,457 23,932
4 10,380 10,380
5 8,500 8,500
6 56,728 56,728
Total 134,006 9,885 42,749 186,640

I

.",-

1. Assumes 1,000 BTU per pound of steam and 70% conversion
efficiency.

2. Occurs between April and November and can be shifted to
hours between midnight and noon.

3. Assumes 60% of asphalt plant's energy usage is for
heating aggregate. Energy from waste-to-energy facil-
ity could NOT be used to satisfy this requirement.

Four process energy users make up 72% of the total projected
market for thermal energy. Over 9.5% of the process energy
requirements are of a year around nature, five days a week, with
minimal seasonal variation. Exhibit B graphically illustrates the
fluctuations in steam requirements for the typical weekday (M-F).
The area defined as "General space heating" is assumed to be in
effect seven days per week during the months of November through
April. The general space heating requirement will vary from zero
Ito the levels shown in Exhibit B. The project is designed under
the assumption that some of the industrial load can be interrupted
when space heating requirements are at a maximum.

- 4 -
