Commissioner Elwell asked if Allina would be laying off employees. Mr. Snoke <br />reported they are not laying off employees in the ambulance service but there will be <br />some layoffs in the Allina organization and other healthcare systems. <br />Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br />Commissioner Woods presented the following YIPS report: <br />o VIPS have provided over 2500 volunteer hours for 2008; not all hours are in yet. <br />Q The Cleveland Ave bridge was tagged with graffiti again. <br />o VIPS prepared the Fire Department dinner in January at Applewood Point, in their <br />community room. <br />Q VIPS will be present at the FSC Health & Wellness Fair. They will do Kid Care and <br />give out information on Project Lifesaver. <br />o Kid Care was done at the Pike Lake Sock Hop. <br />a VIPS will be assisting with the next Red Cross Blood Drive on February , Oih at the <br />Public Safety Center. <br />o CERT Refreshers will be held after VIPS meetings. <br />o VIPS will help with the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, scheduled for March 22°d at <br />the Family Service Center. <br />o The MNVOAD Annual Conference is scheduled for February 27 and 28. <br />d VIPS member Bob Parrott has been very busy with Project Lifesaver. <br />There was a brief discussion regarding the petitions; that have been presented to close the <br />skateboard park as well as the petitions that have been presented to keep the skateboard <br />park. Right now, this issue is with the Parks, Recreation & Environmental Commission <br />(PREC). <br />Public Safety / Homeland Security Update <br />Deputy Director Ellickson reported there has been an increase in daytime thefts; <br />particularly,in thefts from auto. <br />The monthly report was reviewed. <br />Council Liaison' <br />Council Report , <br />Council Member Doffing was unable to attend tonight's meeting. She submitted some <br />notes that were read by Deputy Director Ellickson: <br />o The City Council has been considering what to do with the roof of the Family Service <br />Center. It has been leaking for years and at the last work session, numerous questions <br />and clarifications were given on the condition of the roof. It's only 14 years old but <br />has surpassed all warranties. The city will be getting further estimates on its <br />condition and repair and cost scenario once the weather turns better. <br />o The City Council will be at their annual team building retreat, days only, Thursday <br />and Friday this week at the Shoreview community center. <br />
