March 10, 2009 Page S of 7 <br />10 5 Ayes, 0 Nays, Motion Carried <br />Council Business <br />1. Consideration of street sign replacement community survey results. Report No. 09-079. <br />Director of Public Works Grant Wyffels explained that a recent community survey was completed, and 4 <br />different mock-up street signs were displayed. It was reported that design Number 2 received the most <br />votes. This included the New Brighton Logo along with capital and lowercase lettering. Council requested <br />including block numbers and the City logo on each sign. Councilmember Burg questioned if the budgeted <br />amount of $50,000 would cover the additional cost associated with the addition of the logo and block <br />numbers. Director Wyflels explained with the logo on each sip and the block numbers, an additional cost <br />of approximately $7,000 would be incurred. Councilmember Phillips stated he would be in flavor of an <br />additional cost of $6,000 or $7,000 to have the additional features included. The installation will begin at the <br />south end of town in 2009, and be completed in the north end in 2011. <br />Director Wyfl`els suggested selling the existing street signs, and asked for council direction. Council <br />recommended offering each sign at a cost of $10, and drawing names in the event ofmultiple requests. <br />Motion by Councilmember Phillips, seconded by Councilmember Doffing to approve all signs to <br />resemble the example of the 9" Ave sign with the New Brighton logo and block numbers on all signs. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays, Motion Carried <br />2. Consideration of revisions to Chapter 10 (FMLA) of the New Brighton Personnel Code, Report No. <br />09-073. *Moved from Consent Agenda. <br />Councilmember Doffing questioned section 12, related to the denial of reinstatement of key employees, and <br />suggested striking paragraph one is section 12 and removing a portion of paragraph 2. Assistant City <br />Manager Schawn`Johnson reported the Key Employee/Retum to Work language is standard language <br />provided by the Federal Government, acid may be beneficial to a smaller company. Councilmember <br />Doffing reported she knows of no reason to deny reinstatement after a leave, Councilmember Phillips <br />agreed. Councilmember Doffing pointed out the difference between the absence and return of the employee <br />causing the economic hardship. City Attorney LeFevere offered some clarification, stating this would more <br />likely be a concern in the private sector. Mr. Lotter added employees are required to use sick and/or vacation <br />time during a FMLA absence. <br />Motion by Councilmember Doffing, seconded by Councilmember Bauman to accept revisions to <br />Chapter 10 (Family and Medical Leave Policy) of the New Brighton Personnel Code with the <br />following changes; Section 12 paragraph 1, removed.
