<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />July 28, 1981 <br /> <br />TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Geri Evans, Chair Human Rights Commission <br /> <br />RE: Quarterly Report <br /> <br />The main activity of the Human Rights Commission this quarter <br />originated from a petition to the City Council which was <br />referred to the Comrnissionfor study. The petition asked <br />for City Council action on a "Public Display-Minors Law". <br />The Commission members activities on this issue included <br />surveying the community for displays, reading literature <br />and research, having a presentation by the petitioner and <br />finally, consulting the City Attorney to arrange a future <br />presentation by him. <br /> <br />Other activities Lncluded: <br /> <br />1. Education - Mr. James Winkels, Director of Community Development <br />on downtown development. <br />Mrs. Gerald Laroche on Public Display-Minors Law <br /> <br />2. ConununityAwareness - Coverage in two (2) issues at the <br />Minneapolis Star in the Community Section. <br /> <br />3. ParticipatLon - Six (6) members attended the annual <br />meeting of the League of l\1.innesota Human <br />Rights Commissions. As well,-the City Manager <br />attended. The Assistant City Manager and <br />one (1) commissioner worked as members of <br />the planning committee and were re-elected <br />as Directors for the coming year. <br /> <br />4 . Action- <br /> <br />Budget approved by Commission for the following year. <br /> <br />Election of new officers. <br /> <br />Report on the search for City Manager sent <br />to City council received and referred to <br />staff to be incorporated into practice for <br />future searches. <br /> <br />GE: j f <br />
