<br />City of New Brighton <br />December 26, 1979 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The following questioned various aspects of the proposed <br />rezoning: <br /> <br />Mr. Al Logelin, 933 llth Avenue NW"~",.,,,. <br />Mr. Jim Schmalzbauer, 758 3rd Avenue NW, '., · <br />Mr. Chester Glisan, 513 lOth Street NW, and <br />Mr. Craig Johnson, 789 3,d Avenue NW. <br /> <br />The Council discussed the proposal to rezone and discussed <br />including existing properties north of 8th Street on the <br />east and west sides of 6th Avenue for possible inclusion <br />in the downtown district. <br /> <br />Motion by Werdouschegg, seconded by Blomquist to close <br />the hearing. <br />S ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Motion by Senden, seconded by Werdouschegg to waive the <br />reading and hold the first reading of an ordinance entitled <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE NEW BRIGHTON ZONING ORDINANCE BY <br />REZONING CERTAIN PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />FROM R-l, R-3B, B-l, and B-3 to B-4, DOWNTOWN BUSINESS <br />DISTRICT (Generally south of I-694, west of Third Avenue NW, <br />east of Minnesota Transfer Railroad Line, and north of <br />Eighth Street NW) . <br />5 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />Motion by Janecek, seconded by Werdouschegg to R-l14 <br />initiate rezoning of property laying south of <br />parcels #9 and #10, north of 8th Street as shown <br />on page two of the Downtown, Report, and to call <br />a public hearing for January 8, 1980 at 7:45 p.m. <br />5 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />Council Business <br />Mr. Larry Thompson, consultant, described <br />the details of the Suburban Police Recruitment <br />System. <br /> <br />Suburban Police <br />Recruitment System <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Lee Schultz, Chairperson of the New Brighton <br />Civil Service Commission introduced Mr. Tom Morris, <br />2205 Sioux Blvd., Chairperson-elect of the New <br />Brighton Civil Service Commission. Mr. Morris <br />addressed the proposal and expressed concern with <br />the cost and recruitment program in general stating <br />many questions need to be answered before a determination <br />can be made. Maybe an alternative which is more <br />cost effective can be used such as that a number of <br />communities participate in a joint testing program. <br /> <br />Mayor Senden, with the consent of the Council, directed <br />receipt and filing of a letter from Columbia Heights <br />dated December 18, 1979 relating to the Suburban Police <br />Recruitment System. <br /> <br />- .t'~- <br />
