CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />PUBLIC WORKYENGINEERING DEPARTMENT <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: May 1, 2009 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council, City Manager <br />FROM: Grant Wyffels, Director of Public Works CMvj <br />SUBJECT: Proposal for Engineering Services for 2009 Roof Management Program <br />WORKSESSION MATERIALS FOR MAY 4, 2009 MEETING <br />Upon the City's request, Inspec provided a proposal for engineering services to start a roof <br />management program. Attached is a proposal from Inspec for a roof management program of <br />all 49 City Owned structures with roofs. <br />Their proposal included the following basic services: <br />1. Meet with Client and obtain historical and present information regarding the roofs <br />a. Age of roofs <br />b. Known moisture and infiltration locations <br />c. Past repair / replacement history <br />2. Develop a sketch of all roof areas <br />a. Prepare CAD sketches <br />b. Dimension each roof <br />c. Include all roof penetrations <br />d. Provide photographs of roof areas <br />3. Provide a visual evaluation <br />a. Identify current roof systems of all sections for the roof areas <br />b. Identify, quantify, and prioritize all deficiencies and locate on sketch <br />c. Provide photographs of each type of deficiency <br />4. Analyze the information gathered to determine estimated remaining service life. Current <br />age, type and condition of the roof are taken into consideration when determining the <br />remaining service life <br />a. Develop repair recommendations and replacement recommendations <br />5. Provide final report <br />The total cost for all of these services is estimated to be $33,300 if all of the City roofs are <br />evaluated. The City has asked that 30 of the 49 roofs not be evaluated since they are less than <br />1,000 square feet in size. Inspect will provide the City a new proposal for only evaluating the 19 <br />larger roof areas. The cost of this will be substantially less than the total cost for all of the roofs. <br />A copy of this new proposal will be available Monday. <br />
