-4-
•
Usually each Council member rotates to a different Commission every year. This
year a couple of the Council members are staying where they were. Bauman and
Burg just switch positions. It was easier for Bauman to do the EDC evening.
Burg stated there was a rather lengthy discussion regarding how many members
there should be on a commission. They also talked about whether there should be
term limits and if so, how it would that be handled for each commission.
Burg stated that the Mayor is on a lot of committees: He often works 40 hours a
week as Mayor.
Harreld asked if the Council will have the discussion again about how many
Commissioners there will be on each Commission.
Burg stated the decision can be changed every year. Most of the Council felt 7
was good. Burg said personally she felt the more ideas, the better.
Harreld commented that there are many creative and talented individuals in this
City. She would like to give those individuals opportunity to give input by being
on a commission. You never want to miss that opportunity.
Burg stated she agreed with Harreld's comments. The Council discussion focused
more on if someone was going to miss one too many meetings. If someone has a
lot of experience to bring to a meeting, and they have to miss several meetings,
they are still bringing that experience to every meeting they attend. It seemed the
discussion was focused on whether someone would be there and not so much on
their qualifications. Burg stated she does not feel that is how a commissioner
should be chosen.
Frischman stated that often times there are opportunities for residents to have
input, even if they are not on a commission. We have a sub -committee of the
Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission; the Trails Committee, that
also allows for resident input. If we can't increase the number of commissioners,
I e have opportunities for residents to be involved in some recommendations that
are made.
IX. Adjourn
MOTION BY, TREVORROW, SECONDED BY HEINRICH, TO ADJOURN AT 8:42 P.M.
MOTION CARRIED.
0
