This project consists of safety improvements to the Silver Lake Road Bridge over I694. Legislative History: January 9, 2007: Council approval to seek (SRTS) Grant October 9, 2007: Council accepted SRTS Grant January 22, 2008: Council approval to enter into project contract with MnDOT January 26, 2009: Council entered into Design Phase Engineering Services Agreement with WSB. Financial Impact: The estimated project costs are: Construction *$125,000 Engineering $ 25,000 is Total Project Costs $150,000 *The project is being bid with two options for ornamental metal railings. These options and costs will be presented to the Council for consideration at the time of the bid award. Explanation: Project 08-7 consists of pedestrian -related enhancements and safety improvements to the Mn/DOT Silver Lake Road Bridge over 1694. Work includes the removal of the existing chain link fence, installation of new ornamental metal railing at the edge of the east edge of the bridge sidewalk and on top of the existing concrete bridge barrier, and crosswalk modifications to the "pork chop" at the entrance ramp to east bound I694. Generally, the project is bounded by the north and south freeway ramps along the east sidewalk. The proposed project schedule is as follows: June 9, 2009 City Council Approves Project and Authorizes Advertisement for Bids August 6, 2009 Bid Opening August 11 or 25, 2009 Award Project; depends on all Federal approvals November 15, 2009 Final Completion Costs and Funding: $100,000 of the $175,000 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant awarded in 2007 will be used to fund Project 08-7, Safe Routes to School — Silver Lake Road Bridge Improvements. Up to $50,000 in funding for the remainder of this project will come from excess MSA funds residing in Fund 422. These MSA funds will be used for the, rebuilding of the free -right turn lane and "pork chop" area. G rl t M. Wyff , P. E.
