Per Council direction, City staff has modified the following sections of the City Code; <br />General Conditions -Division 1: Section 2-63 (Subd 1-5) Term Limits; <br />New Language -Section 2-63. Terms Limits. <br />(1) Planning Commission members will be allowed to serve four consecutive terms or a <br />maximum of twelve years <br />(2) All other commission and committee member appointments will be allowed to serve <br />three consecutive terms or a maximum of nine years. <br />(3) Effective April 1, 2010, the City Council will begin enforcing the term limits on current <br />conunission or committee members who have served for three or four consecutive teens. <br />(4) If a cornxnission or committee member is appointed by the City Council to complete the <br />term of an individual that has resigned or been removed by the City Council, the time <br />served by the coni nission or conunittee member to complete the remainder of an existing <br />term will not count towards the term limit requirements set forth by the City, <br />(S) A commission or committee member that has served the maximum number of terms <br />allowed by the City is required to take a one year break from serving on that particular <br />commission or committee. The member may apply for reappointment to a different <br />commission or committee after their terin limit has expired. <br />General Conditions -Division 1: Section 2-64 (Subd 1-3) Chairperson; <br />Current Language Section 2-63. Chairperson. <br />(1) Each commission shall annually elect a chairperson at the first meeting following the <br />appointment of members. The chairperson will be expected to provide leadership for the <br />commission and to facilitate the conduct of regular meetings. <br />(2) The criteria in this Subsection shall be used when selecting the chairperson. <br />A. The member has a served a minimum of three years on the commission. <br />B. The member has a good attendance record and expects to be able to make all meetings <br />while serving as chairperson. <br />C. The member has demonstrated leadership and involvement in past activities of the <br />commission. <br />D. The member has demonstrated the ability to understand and further the City's overall <br />mission, specifically relating to the commission's responsibilities. <br />(3) The City Council may remove a chairperson if it determines the member has misused his or <br />her position to the detriment of the commission's effectiveness or has caused unnecessary legal or <br />financial liability for the City.
