CITY OF NEW BEZIGHTON
MEMORANDUM
DATE: July 2, 2009
TO: Dean Lotter, City Manager
FROM: Grant Fernelius, Director of Community Development EV( --
SUBJECT: July 7th Worksession Discussion on City Owned Properties
Attached is a map and list of all City -owned land according to the most recent database
download from Ramsey County. I would like to offer a few observations about the list.
The map identifies different uses, including those for parks/ponds (green); city
facilities (yellow) and water utilities (blue). In addition, it also highlights the sites
that the City has acquired for redevelopment purposes (red). There area few
parcels that have been identified as vacant — with distinctions made for those that
are developable (orange) and those that are not (orange hatch) for various
reasons.
• There are two sites (#89 and #25) which have been mentioned in recent weeks
as potential candidates for sale to private interests:
o Site 89 is located near the corner of Old Highway 8 and 8th Avenue NW.
The City was approached by John Stenglein and Peter Murlowski about
selling the site to relocate the local funeral home. That request was
related to the development of the former Marv's Transmission site. Public
Works staff has expressed some interest in retaining Site 89 for future
expansion of the Public Works Garage.
o Site 25 is the former Harry's Bar on Old Highway 8. It is my
understanding this property was acquired several years ago in anticipation
of potential redevelopment along the corridor. When those plans did not
materialize, staff contacted the adjacent trucking company to determine
their interest. Initially, the company was interested, but the negotiations
never advanced.
Hopefully, this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.
