(7) Assist in the preparation and implementation of plans and strategies for business retention. <br />(8) Recommend policies and particular actions regarding industrial and commercial expansion, <br />attraction and development to the City Council and Planning Commission. <br />(9) Cooperate with and use the facilities of the Minnesota Department of Energy and Economic <br />Development's Star Cities Program. <br />(10) Cooperate with and coordinate activities with the New Brighton Chamber of Commerce. <br />(11) Recommend long and short range plans and strategies for industrial and commercial <br />development. <br />(1.2) Review proposed development proposals for compliance with the City's plans and strategies <br />and recommend changes if necessary to better meet the goals of those plans and strategies. <br />(13) Perform other duties as directed by the City Council. No. 610, 12-13-94; Code of <br />2001) <br />Proposed Language Section 2-103 Duties and Responsibilities. <br />The mission of the Economic Development Commission is: <br />(1) Confer with and advise the City Council, Planning Commission, and staff of the Community <br />Development Department on all matters concerning industrial and commercial development. <br />(2) Assist and advise the City in preparing economic development marketing plans, business <br />retention programs, and developing different strategies that could be utilized in attracting <br />commercial and industrial development opportunities to the City. <br />The duties and responsibilities of this Coâ–ºnmission shall be to: <br />(1) Aid the City Council and Planning Commission in the proper zoning and orderly development <br />of areas suitable for industrial and cotmnercial development. Recommend long and short range <br />plans and strategics for industrial and corrunercial development. <br />(2) Assist with and provide insight on developing, compiling, coordinating, and publicizing <br />information on matters concerning industrial and commercial development. Provide advice and <br />assist with the collection of data and information pertinent to the economic well being of the City. <br />(3) Assist in the preparation and implementation of plans and strategies for business retention. <br />(4) Cooperate with and coordinate activities with New Brighton business organizations. <br />(S) Review proposed development proposals for compliance with the City's plans and strategies <br />and recommend changes if necessary to better meet the goals of those plans and strategies. <br />(6) Perform other duties as directed by the City Council.
