Jacobson, Director of Public Safety' <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report La- Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />Approval of RESOLUTION AUTHORIZNG PARTICIPATION IN THE RAMSEY COUNTY <br />TRAFFIC SAFETY INITIATIVE AS FUNDED BY THE MN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC <br />SAFETY OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR THE 2009-2010 GRANT YEAR. <br />Legislative History: <br />The City of New Brighton has participated in "Safe and Sober" grant programs for several years <br />and has authorized/approved similar grants in previous years. <br />Financial Impact: <br />Additional $29,000 of grant funded overtime for use in targeted traffic safety programs and <br />enforcement to include $12,000 for the traditional "safe and sober" and $17,000 for high <br />visibility traffic safety initiatives. <br />Explanation: <br />The Ramsey County Sheriff's Department with the City of New Brighton and the Cities of <br />Roseville, Mounds View, St. Anthony, White Bear Lake have been allocated funds through a <br />2009 — 2010 traffic safety grant. The New Brighton Department of Public Safety has been a <br />frequent partner with the Office of Traffic Safety through the "Safe and Sober" program. This <br />year's grant will result in an additional $29,000 for use by the New Brighton Department of <br />Public Safety for targeted enforcement and programs to include DUI, speed, aggressive driving <br />and seat belt enforcement and education. This program has been extremely successful in New <br />Brighton a;at)'s <br />'s coordinated by Sgt. Terry Nelson. Officer Hamdorf was recognized this year as <br />one of tl top DUI enforcers emphasizing our City's commitment to traffic safety. <br />Robert J.
