It will be an 8
foot bituminous path that will connect up by Hwy 96 by the existing pedestrian ramp. There is an
existing sidewalk which will connect to the new trail. The plan is to leave the existing dirt path.
The next meeting will be on October 14th (changed to be consistent with the PREC meeting day).
V. Correspondence
A. Skate Park Update
Trevor Hamdorf was present to give an update. In August there was one call for
service to Freedom Park. From April through September 2nd there have been a total of
18 calls. Last year the number was 47. Hansen Park was 14 calls for service. Calls for
service to Long Lake Park were 115 for the year. Chris Wolla and staff sandblasted
and painted the grates white. Worked with Tony Paetznick and the minutes taken
from the user meetings are being e-mailed out to the grid 11 mailing list. Had a
meeting on August 18th and discussed some things with neighbors and generally the
feeling is that things have improved.
Trevorrow;noticed there seems to be more parents around the skate park area and also
the skateboarders seem to be younger.
Hamdorf said he also noticed that there were younger kids at the skate park. It is a
good thing because now they are feeling safe to do so and they can grow up using the
facilities. In the long term that is a benefit. Hamdorf stated things are going good but
they do not want to stop their efforts now. Feel things have turned a corner at the
park.
Meyer stated there were comments on the internet about how Freedom Skate Park
was perceived. They were not very complimentary. He is wondering if things have
changed to show a stronger, more viable skate park.
Hamdorf stated he has not looked at the site for 2 -3 weeks but the last time he did
look at it there was no change. From what he remembers about the website it was an
open forum/bulletin board site and there were only one or two comments on there. He
is not aware of any additions to this website.
