Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP Federal Relations October 20, 2009 <br />Federal Representation Update, Action Items, and Recommendations <br />The City also submitted the same requests to Senator Klobuchar in hopes that she would consider the <br />requests and forward them onto the Senate Committee for possible inclusion in the Senate appropriations <br />bills. In the end, Senator Klobuchar ended up requesting the following Congressionally Directed <br />Spending items for the City of New Brighton: <br />• $1 million — Northwest Quadrant Soil Corrections -Former Refuse Site Project (To Remediate <br />soil at a former refuse site) <br />• $1 million — Northwest Quadrant Soil Remediation Project (To Remediate contaminated soil) <br />• $1 million — Northwest Quadrant Transportation Improvements — East Side Project <br />However, Senator Klobuchar's requests for the City of New Brighton were not included in any of the <br />Senate's appropriations measures. <br />Although the House and Senate have yet to complete the fiscal year 2010 appropriations process, the <br />opportunity to include individual projects in the funding measures has passed. With this said, the <br />correspondence, meetings, phone calls, and other forms of communication recommended by LGN and <br />acted on by the City have put you in a good position should you desire seek federal funding through the <br />fiscal year 2011 appropriations process. <br />Recommended Action Items: <br />The following recommended action items seek to keep the City of New Brighton's projects in front of <br />Members of Congress and their staff in order to remind them about the community and regional benefits <br />that they will provide: <br />• Seek a meeting with Senator Klobuchar's staff in New Brighton or at her metro office <br />• Seek a meeting with Senator Franken's staff in New Brighton or in his metro office (Request <br />made) <br />Consider a visit to Washington, DC at a time that corresponds with critical points in the <br />transportation authorization process or the fiscal year 2011 appropriations process <br />Conclusion <br />Once again, we look forward to continued opportunities to work with the City of New Brighton to assist <br />you in achieving your federal goals. We will continue to provide you with periodic updates and timely <br />recommendations as the transportation authorization and appropriations process proceeds.
