- 3 -
Hamdorf stated next year he will not continue the high level of involvement that they have been
doing. Schicker and the neighborhood, School District and the skate park users are the ones that
have done the work. He has been more of a facilitator, trying to bring the organizations together.
The collaborative effort has made this effective—everyone working together. The tax payers are
getting a bang for their buck for the$300 overtime. He is guessing that in the long run the cost
savings are in the thousands. Hamdorf said that next year he plans to take a step back; he will
facilitate and monitor. He leaves it up to the Commission whether they want monthly reports. He
does not believe the monthly reports are necessary. He can continue to monitor the numbers.
Harreld stated she very much appreciates Schicker's efforts and the good example she is setting.
Breuer stated she would like the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission to discuss
how they want to handle the November meeting. At the end of the November meeting she would
like a recommendation from the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission that will go
to the Council for their meeting in November. It could be like it was handled tonight or if you
would like, it can be handled as a public hearing. Either way, the meeting will be posted.
Trevorrow said we made a commitment that we would have another public meeting in November
(like we did in May). After the public hearing we would make a recommendation to the City
Council. Trevorrow and Heinrich felt there should be some kind of formal notification to
residents of this meeting.
Breuer commented that we are not required to do more than post it on our website or other
postings.
The Commission discussed whether they should have public comment or a public hearing in
November.
MOTION BY HEINRICH, SECONDED BY TREVORROW,THAT WE LIST IT ON THE
NOVEMBER AGENDA AS: "SKATE PARK UPDATE-OFFICER HAMDORF/PUBLIC
COMMENT". MOTION CARRIED.
Breuer commented that the November meeting will be posted on our website and it will be in the
paper and on the front door of City Hall.
VI. Correspondence
A. Council Report—Council Member Mary Burg
Burg complimented Tandeski and others for what they are doing at the skate park. She
suggested that perhaps they speak at Highview because there are some leadership groups
that would love to hear about this.
Council has contracted with Risdall Advertising to help with the branding of the
Northwest Quadrant. We are looking at new ways of advertising the Northwest Quadrant.
Risdall is a national and international leader in advertising and they have been located in
New Brighton for many, many years. They win lots of National Awards. We are happy
to have them working with us.
The Council approved the bituminous trail that is by the boat launch and goes under the
rail road tracks and behind API. There was $100,000 matching grant available to us, so
we were able to pave the path that was originally planned to be a woodchip path. The
bituminous path will save us a lot of money in the long run.
