Of <br />Report Number 09-282 <br />Agenda Section VI-9 <br />the city that works for you Council Meeting Date November 24, 2009 <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF FINAL PAYMENT AND CHANGE ORDER 1 <br />TO PROJECT 09-1, SOUTH WATER TOWER PAINTING <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this repo Comments attached <br />Recommendation: To approve the 119ing: 1) Final Payment and Change Order 1 to the contract to <br />Project 09-1, South Water Tower PaWting in the amount of $97,700.00 to M.K. Painting, Inc. 2) <br />Authorize an additional $15,000 in consultant fees to Bolton & Menk, Inc. to cover additional inspection <br />and construction management time that was not a part of the original scope of work. <br />Legislative History: The City Council ordered Project 09-1 on February 10, 2009 and awarded a <br />contract to M.K. Painting, Inc. in the amount of $827,000.00 on March 24, 2009. <br />Financial Impact: Please see attached payment breakdown for details. The total final amount of the <br />contract portion of the water tower painting with Change Order 1 is $837,500.00. <br />Explanation: Project 09-1 consists of the repainting of the interior and exterior surfaces of the <br />1,000,000 gallon water tower located at 660 5th Street SW. All contract work regarding the painting of <br />the south water tower has been completed by the Contractor, M.K Painting, Inc. and accepted by the City <br />and the City's consultant, Bolton & Menk, Inc. <br />Change Order 1 consists of three items being added to the contract: 1) The addition of a new double door <br />to the adjacent well house and treatment facility; 2) The addition of another logo to the water tower; and <br />3) The repair of an existing hatch hinge. All items were requested by the City. The cost of Change <br />Order 1 is $10,500.00 and is included in the Final Payment. Please see the attached Change Order. <br />Attached is a letter from Bolton & Menk explaining the additional $15,000 for inspection and <br />construction management time. <br />Costs and Funding: The City Council approved a total cost of this project is $1,029,700 which includes <br />construction, engineering, and a contingency. This project was completed under budget including all <br />change orders and additional consultant fees. This project will be funded from the Water Improvement <br />Fund which has $1,250,000 budgeted for this work. <br />Grant NA Wyf 1P.E. <br />Director of Public Works <br />0 Attachments <br />
