PLANNING REPORT <br />• DATE: November 9, 2009 <br />CASE: SP2009-008 <br />SUBJECT: Special Use Permit to permit Installation of Telecommunications <br />Equipment on the Xcel Energy Transmission Tower at 2172 Old Highway <br />8 N <br />APPLICANT: Rob Viera on behalf of Clearwire Wireless Broadband <br />REQUEST & BACKGROUND <br />The applicant works for Buell Consulting and is acting on behalf of Clearwire Communications. <br />The Special Use Permit request would allow for installation of three panel antennas and three <br />microwave dishes on the existing Xcel Energy Transmission Tower at 2172 Old Highway 8 NW <br />at a height of 120'. Also included in the request is the ability to lease a 10' x 10' ground space <br />area from the property owner to place the necessary equipment to operate the antennas. The <br />antennas would be painted to match the tower and expected installation would be the summer of <br />2010. <br />The applicant has been working with City staff regarding numerous potential Clearwire sites <br />within the New Brighton municipal boundary. This request is the only request that would allow <br />installation of antennas on private property. The applicant has obtained landowner consent for <br />the ground space needed and is currently working with Xcel Energy on signing a Master Lease <br />Agreement that would allow Clearwire to install equipment on many Xcel Energy -owned <br />poles/towers.
