U • C� J Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) Commissioner Woods presented the following VIPS report: o The VIPS held their regular monthly meeting last night. 0 31 pints of blood were drawn at the recent blood drive. o Officer Troy Hyland is home from Iraq. o Officer Paetznick will be taking a paternity leave. o SantaCop helped 78 families and 169 children this past holiday season. o The Neighborhood meetings will start in February; there will be two meetings in February and two in March. o VIPS volunteer hours are still being finalized but an estimate is 2500 hours for 2009. o The MN VOAD Seminar for 2010 is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27d', at St. John the Baptist Church. Public Safety / Homeland Security Update Director Jacobson reported the police officer testing is sch4 at 9 am at the Family Service Center. A return to work date has not yet been set. Director Jacobson reviewed the 4d' quarter statistics for Use of Force incidents. He also reviewed the December 2009 statistics for Part I<crimes, Traffic Activity and Miscellaneous Police Activity. The statistics for Part I crimes are at a new low; lowest since 1987 or 1988. Commissioner Tollefson motioned to decline the petition requesting one-way streets on 2nd Ave NW and 3rd Ave NW based on the traffic report and the traffic study. Commissioner Bredenbeck seconded.
