U <br />• <br />C� <br />J <br />Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br />Commissioner Woods presented the following VIPS report: <br />o The VIPS held their regular monthly meeting last night. <br />0 31 pints of blood were drawn at the recent blood drive. <br />o Officer Troy Hyland is home from Iraq. <br />o Officer Paetznick will be taking a paternity leave. <br />o SantaCop helped 78 families and 169 children this past holiday season. <br />o The Neighborhood meetings will start in February; there will be two meetings in <br />February and two in March. <br />o VIPS volunteer hours are still being finalized but an estimate is 2500 hours for 2009. <br />o The MN VOAD Seminar for 2010 is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27d', at St. John the <br />Baptist Church. <br />Public Safety / Homeland Security Update <br />Director Jacobson reported the police officer testing is sch4 <br />at 9 am at the Family Service Center. We had approximate <br />will attend this testing. <br />for <br />30d`, <br />people RSVP that they <br />Officer Hyland has returned from Iraq. He will take sometime to spend with his family. <br />A return to work date has not yet been set. <br />Director Jacobson reviewed the 4d' quarter statistics for Use of Force incidents. He also <br />reviewed the December 2009 statistics for Part I<crimes, Traffic Activity and <br />Miscellaneous Police Activity. The statistics for Part I crimes are at a new low; lowest <br />since 1987 or 1988. <br />Council Liaison <br />a <br />quiet. <br />on noted the following items: <br />seting of the year last night; so far, things have been pretty <br />Director Jacobson reviewed the update reported by Officer Boyd. He stated the issue <br />comes down to traffic volume. He stated our department will continue to monitor traffic <br />in this area. <br />Commissioner Tollefson motioned to decline the petition requesting one-way streets on <br />2nd Ave NW and 3rd Ave NW based on the traffic report and the traffic study. <br />Commissioner Bredenbeck seconded. Motion carried. <br />
