Work Session Memo
April 23, 2010
• Page 3
Short rationales:
1) Brighton's Edge. It provides a geographic cue. And "edge" can imply an
advantage, innovation and leadership.
2) A pair of two variations on Larkspur. During the meeting with Council,
"Landing" was suggested and we used that for the residential portion, and then
"Crossroads" for the commercial portion.
Another important aspect to keep in mind when reviewing the names is that
many other names were generated throughout the process—we even traveled
down the path of "lakes" throughout the naming process—and found it too
crowded.
Next Steps
Council has several options to consider. One possibility is to select a name from the
original list. A second option is to consider one of the more recent suggestions by
RMG that are also attached. In lieu of making a decision right now, Council could solicit
feedback on one or more of the concepts, much like what was done with street signs.
• For example, we could incorporate a discussion of the names into the NWQ Update. In
addition, we could also have signs made up with an opportunity to place a sticker next
to a favorite concept.
While the developers indicated that the site name was not as important (as location or
amenities), staff feels it is time to start marketing the site with a new image. Selecting a
name will help convey the City's goals for the project. The name, logo and tag line
would be incorporated into all of our marketing materials.
0
