• Volunteers in Public Safety (YIPS) <br />Commissioner Woods reported the following: <br />o Project Lifesaver continues to expand at the County level and at the State level. <br />o There is an upcoming Blood Drive on April 7h that the VIPS will assist with. They <br />are always looking for more blood donors. <br />o VIPS will prepare dinner for the April Fire Department meeting. <br />Public Safetv / Homeland Securitv Update <br />Director Jacobson reported working with Risdall Advertising Agency and the Wildlife <br />Science Center to set up a wolf web cam. This project will continue even though <br />Medium Toast will be going to another location since she was not accepted back into the <br />wolf pack. <br />The process to replace the open Deputy Director position has started; there are five <br />internal candidates that have applied. The candidates will be doing testing the end of <br />April and a decision should be made the beginning of May. <br />At the annual Police Department meeting, Officer Trevor Hamdorf was named Police <br />Officer of the Year and Officer Ted Layton was named Traffic Safety Officer of the <br />Year. <br />Detectives continue to work on leads for the Lee Goodwin homicide. <br />Director Jacobson passed around a goad article regarding the success at the skate park <br />that was published in the Minnesota Police Chief s magazine. Commissioner Woods also <br />noted a good article that was in the Star Tribune regarding the BART program. <br />Council Liaison <br />Council Report <br />Council Representative Samuelson noted the following items: <br />o The south McDonalds will be rebuilt this spring. This process should take 13 weeks. <br />o The Town Hall meeting date is May 22. <br />o The Neighborhood meetings are done. <br />Old Business <br />Commissioner Allen noted some graffiti on a Silver Lake Flats building. Commissioner <br />Schuman noted some on an electrical box at Polynesian Village. This will be looked into <br />and covered up. <br />New Business <br />• No new business. <br />
